At the beginning of one of my favorite all-time movies, the original version of The Thomas Crowne Affair, with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, McQueen has an extraordinarily beautiful girlfriend to whom he pays scant attention. The one scene I remember is when he is flying his glider very dangerously while the girl waits for him on the ground nervously. Anyway, her name was Astrid Heeren:
Again, the crap you remember when you get older. Sheesh!
I just saw her tonight in the film "Castle Keep" on TV, where she shared a bed with Burt Lancaster and fell in love with him. She was the main female role.
ReplyDeleteShe was believable and unbelievably beautiful.
It seems she did one more film, but was more active as a model, naturally.
I ran into Peter Falk in Tokyo--completely by accident--and told him how much I loved Castle Keep. Under any other circumstances, he might have told me to butt out of his dinner and drinks. But he was genuinely appreciative. Loved Astrid Heeren!
DeleteShe was a very famous and sought after Dutch fashion model in the mid sixties and early seventies who could make the transformation from modeling to acting. Unlike Jean Shrimpton.
ReplyDeleteObviously didn't make it very far into this "transformation".
DeleteDoes anybody have more information on this gorgeous model/actress?, where she was born, her age, is she still alive today?
ReplyDeletePlease post
Yes - Astrid is well and lives in Manhattan.
Deletecheck out the fan site i created about Astrid Heeren:

I can't find your website for Astrid Heeren. She was a Dutch fashion model before she got into movies briefly. I assume you are New Jersey Greek?
DeleteDespite the Dutch name she's actually German - I've met her. She's very private so I won't elaborate.

ReplyDeletecool site,60's models,has astrid heeren
My brothers and I loved the movie CASTLE KEEP, so of course we also thought Astrid Heeren was one of the most beautiful actresses ever. In the early 70s she was still modeling, did Cosmopolitan covers, but I happened to read an article about her that said she was born in Heidelberg, Germany, and they printed her birthday which sticks in my mind that she was an Aquarius, and her love life was mentioned, that she was the girlfriend of wealthy banker Jay Mellon of Philadelphia. I'm sure if you contacted a German magazine such as Bunte or its derivative today, they would have more information on this German model/actress.
ReplyDeleteShe may be German, but the surname Heeren is Dutch! Maybe she is German/Dutch.
ReplyDeleteThe name Heeren isn't exclusively Dutch. It is also common in (mostly Northern) Germany. The German word 'Heer' for 'army' is related, as are names like Hermann or Herbert. Given that Dutch itself is a Germanic language (and is closely related to the Low German dialects spoken in Northern Germany), a certain overlap in words and names isn't surprising.
DeleteBeautiful woman but she was no Faye Dunaway
